Liverpool are concerned with the news that striker Christian Benteke faces a spell on the treatment table with a hamstring injury.

Benteke, 24, picked up the injury against Norwich this past weekend, in the 1-1 draw.

The club are anxiously awaiting the results of a scan which may determine how long he is out.

Benteke was replaced against the Canaries by Danny Ings, who scored for the Reds.

The Belgian has had a mixed time of it so far since arriving at Anfield from Aston Villa in the summer for ÂŁ32.5m.

Liverpool come up against Benteke’s former club this coming weekend, with both sides needing the points after indifferent starts.

Liverpool struggled to overcome Bournemouth and lost to Manchester United, while Villa have lost to Midland rivals Leicester and West Brom.

They are already without Daniel Sturridge through injury, so may be a little light up front if Benteke is forced to miss the Villa clash.
