The former Chelsea boss has been tipped to succeed Louis Van Gaal

Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has denied that he has agreed a deal to take over Manchester United this summer.

After being sacked as the Blues boss in December, and with Van Gaal’s Red Devils having struggled for much of the season the 53-year-old has been continuously linked with the managerial hot seat at Old Trafford.

However, Mourinho, who was at O2 Arena to see Anthony Joshua defeat Charles Martin for the IBF heavyweight title on Saturday evening, denied to reports that he had agreed to manage United.

“[Van Gaal] is my friend, I worked with him for a few years.” Mourinho told reporters.

“I am always linked with jobs and in the summer I will have a job, but in this moment I can promise you I do not have a contract with any club.

“I am not in a position to turn [jobs] down, I am in a position to analyse. I am in a position to be open to any club or national team.

“I have to be honest, if possible I would prefer a club but I must analyse to see what is best for my career and to be back with everything I have.

Portuguese hopes for England stay

However, while Mourinho failed to confirm who he’ll be managing next season, he insists he wants to remain in the Premier League.

“I would prefer [to be in England]. I love the country, I love the football here, my family is very stable and happy.” the former Real Madrid coach added.

“If possible yes, it would be my first choice.”

He was also subject of an offer from war-torn Syria, but politely turned down the offer to both stay in the Premier League, and stay in club football, rather than embark of the international scene.
