The future of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been under scrutiny for some time. And if Wenger does depart the Emirates Stadium, then at least one player is set to follow his manager out of the club.
Gunners defender Hector Bellerin is attracting interest from Barcelona. Wenger has played a key part in the development of the 21-year-old Spaniard.
Wenger is out of contract at the end of the season and will decide on whether to sign a two-year extension in the coming weeks. He recently insisted that he will manage next season, but stopped short of confirming if he would still be with Arsenal.
Bellerin was close to not appearing in a Gunners shirt this season, he nearly joined Manchester City last summer, and City are reportedly still interested in his services. He only signed a new six-and-a-half-year deal in November.
The Guardian claim that Bellerin wants to stay loyal to Wenger, while Arsenal are not exactly eager to sell the player.
The Catalan giants currently have a couple of injury problems in defence. Aleix Vidal is out with an ankle injury while Sergi Roberto has failed to impress.
Bellerin was reportedly watched by Barcelona sporting director Robert Fernandez in the Gunners’ game with Bayern Munich last week.
Mundo Deportivo claim that Bellerin is Barca’s top target this summer, and are ready to spend big to get their man.
