Alexis Sanchez has been on fire for Arsenal so far this season, despite talk of his contract situation refusing to go away.
However, he could have ended up at a title rival, in Manchester City.
The Gunners forward has found the net on fourteen occasions this season.
Ex-City manager Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that they were very close to signing the Chilean forward, when he was released by Barcelona in 2014.
Pellegrini told Chilean radio station ADN: “He was one of the best in the world and he showed t every day.
“He was a major player we wanted to take to City.
“We could not take him before he signed for Arsenal, it was because the club were punished for Financial Fair Play.
“I did not have the space in the squad for him.
“Alexis is a complete winner and hopefully he will remain a force for a number of years.”
