The veteran ended a two-year stint with LA Galaxy.

Now he has completed a return to his former side.

UPDATE:

AC Milan have confirmed the signing of Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was available on a free transfer after leaving Los Angeles Galaxy. The 38-year-old let his contract with the Major League Soccer side expire to pursue a return to Europe, and has joined AC Milan for the rest of the season with an option for one year further.

“I am returning to a club that I respect enormously and to a city that I love,” the striker was quoted as saying via the official site. “I will fight with my teammates to change the course of this season and I will do everything to achieve our goals.”

The Rossoneri fought off competition from several different sides, including Serie A rivals Napoli and Bologna, while there were even links to both Everton and Tottenham, but those rumors have now been put to bed.

Sweden star Zlatan Ibrahimovic has reached an agreement to join AC Milan on an initial six-month contract, according to multiple reports in Italy on Thursday. With AC Milan currently struggling in the Serie A-currently placed 11th on the points tally with 21 points in 17 matches and only 16 goals to their credit, they are looking for a striker who can score for them consistently.

As a result, Ibrahimovic has accepted AC Milan’s proposal and is ready to sign a deal to return to the former European giants within the next two days, Gazzetta Dello Sport and Sky Italia reported. The Swede will reportedly sign a six-month contract worth about €3 million with a renewal option for another year, linked to certain conditions such as goals and appearances.

The 38-year-old striker confirmed his departure from Los Angeles Galaxy last month following the club’s elimination from the Major League Soccer playoffs. The Swede should be available to coach Stefano Pioli as early as 2 January, the date of the resumption of training at Milanello. He should be called up and presented in the Sampdoria game but his debut will probably be against SPAL on 15 January in Coppa Italia.

Ibrahimovic played for two seasons between 2010 and 2012 with AC Milan, helping them to their last Serie A title, and scoring 42 goals in 61 league appearances. He also won three league titles with Inter Milan, and two with Juventus, which were both revoked following the ‘Calciopoli’ match-fixing scandal.
