We might get to see the grand derby rescheduled again.

The agreed date for Barcelona’s rescheduled game against Real Madrid could face a legal challenge from La Liga.

Earlier, it was decided that the El Clasico, which was originally scheduled to be held on October 26th, would be postponed to December 18th in the light of recent Catalan protests in and around Barcelona.

Now, La Liga has confirmed it is considering legal action in response to the selection of December 18 as the new date for the postponed Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid. The announcement comes in the immediate aftermath of the Royal Spanish Football Federation’s (RFEF) acceptance of the date proposed by bitter rivals Barca and Madrid, which the Competition Committee approved on Wednesday.

Marca reports that La Liga does not want the game to be held on 18 December, due to two major reasons: it is a Wednesday, and the first round of the Copa del Rey 2019-20 have already been scheduled for that day. La Liga has also apparently asked both teams to play the game two weeks earlier, on 7 December.

President Javier Tebas is said to favor 7 December, a Saturday, in line with the original plan for the game and La Liga has now reaffirmed its resistance to the selected date.

A statement read: “La Liga does not share the resolution of the Competition Committee to set December 18 – following the agreement reached by Barcelona and Real Madrid, despite LaLiga’s refusal – as the date of the previously postponed Clasico.

That would have been a difficult task to achieve on December 18, due to the Copa del Rey first-round matches as mentioned earlier.
