Jose Mourinho has recently revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson knew that Jose Mourinho was planning a sensational return to Stamford Bridge.
Mourinho returned in the summer, and has since guided Chelsea to the top of the Premier League table, with seven games left.
Many questioned Mourinho’s return to Chelsea, when it was widely expected that the Portuguese manager would replace Ferguson as United manager.
In an interview with SunSport Mourinho said: ‘I spoke with Sir Alex when my Real Madrid team knocked United out of the Champions League last season and I told him what I wanted to do – that Chelsea is what I wanted. That was the direction I wanted to go.
‘Everyone knew Benitez was not going to stay, everyone knew my relationship with the club and it was an opportunity I didn’t want to lose.
Mourinho continued to state….
‘So I don’t know if Sir Alex thought of me for United or not – that’s not the point. The point is he knew clearly that I wanted to go to Chelsea.’
As well as their Premier League title ambitions, the Blues are also in the hunt for Champions League silverware with French outfit Paris St Germain standing in their way in the quarter-finals.
