The Italians have had their worst start to a Serie A season in decades under current coach.
AC Millan are reportedly running out of patience with Marco Giampaolo, as they see Arsene Wenger as a potential replacement.
AC Milan have endured a miserable start to the 2019/20 season, losing four of their six games to sit just one point and two places above the relegation zone. They are already 12 points adrift of rivals and league leaders Inter Milan, and six shy of the final Champions League qualification spot in the Italian top flight.
The Rossoneri only appointed Marco Giampaolo in the summer on a three-year contract following Gennaro Gattuso leaving the club, but the coach has not yet had the desired impact at San Siro and there is already huge pressure on the Italian so soon into his tenure.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the AC Milan hierarchy have already drawn up a list of potential replacements, with Arsene Wenger among those who feature. The former Arsenal manager has been out of work since ending his 22-year reign in north London at the end of the 2017/18 campaign.
Wenger’s chances of managing at Italy were further boosted by the presence of Ivan Gazidis who is Milan’s Chief Executive. Gazidis has previously worked with Wenger at Arsenal. Former Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri and ex-Inter boss Luciano Spalletti are also being considered for the AC Millan job.
“Since leaving Arsenal I have received some interesting proposals some of which I am currently contemplating,” he said after receiving the 2019 Legends of Football award at a dinner in London on Monday.
“You will see coaching again, but when, I don’t know exactly.
“I enjoyed a bit to take a distance. I had a reluctance to go back into the heat again. I still cannot live today with the fact that I will never be on the bench again. What I want for sure is to share what I know, and what I have learnt as much as I can in the game. I would like to experience one more time the intensity of the competition”, Mirror Sport quoted him saying.
