In exchange, the Galaxy received an unspecified amount of “allocation money” — money it can use to sign players or spend on current players beyond the salary cap — and the Crew’s second-round pick in the SuperDraft, which starts Thursday.

Jimenez, 25, is a Huntington Park native who spent the last three seasons with the Galaxy after being selected by the team in the second round of the 2011 SuperDraft.

He appeared in 43 regular-season games and scored four goals and recorded six assists. Three of those goals came last season when he appeared in 26 games.

The Galaxy now enters the SuperDraft with the second-round pick (23rd overall) acquired from the Crew and a fourth-round pick (72nd overall) that the Galaxy acquired in a mid-2012 trade with the New York Red Bulls.

It’s the first time the Galaxy has not had a first-round selection in the SuperDraft since 2007.
