Gareth Southgate look for positives in his squad despite a loss against Brazil

Gareth Southgate’s side lost to Brazil 1-0 at Wembley last night.

England head coach Gareth Southgate speaks on their clash against Brazil. He has insisted that he was “happy with a lot” of good performances in their loss to Brazil on Saturday.

England’s unbeaten run of 21 matches at their fortress Wembley Stadium comes to an end after Brazil’s 1-0 win in a friendly fixture. England last lost at Wembley against Denmark in October 2020.

The match was heading towards a goalless draw but Endrick scored the only goal of the contest after 80 minutes of the game.

While talking to Channel 4 after the game, Southgate affirmed that he saw plenty of encouraging signs, saying: “We played from the back really well. I am happy with a lot of that performance.”

He also added: “We have seen a lot of players with not a lot of England caps and we have held our own in possession and had attempts on goal.

“But, that one ruthless moment changes the game. They have clearly got some fabulous forwards and you have to defend well. We had one or two moments we didn’t do that and our goalkeeper saved us on occasions. We never looked like we were being carved apart and turned over possession a lot, we managed to counter-attack but didn’t find the final finish.”
