Gibbs warns title rivals

Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs has warned that Arsenal are intending to make a huge statement in the title race, when they travel to Liverpool in Saturday’s lunchtime kick off. The Gunners are 2 points clear at the top of the premier league, and 8 points ahead of their Saturday opponents. The game at Anfield kicks of a run of 4 games over 11 days that could make or break Arsenal’s season, including a huge Premier League clash with Manchester United, another match against Liverpool (at home in the FA Cup) and two massive games in the Champions League against German champions and current holders Bayern Munich.

Arsenal got a good result at home against Liverpool earlier in the season, with Santi Carzorla and Aaron Ramsey scoring in a 2-0 win for the Gunners.

Gibbs said, “It would be a massive statement if we won there- just like it did when we played Liverpool at home. Before that game, we had not played any big games and although we were sitting at the top of the league people were saying, ‘There’s a big game coming up now- that’ll put everything into perspective.”

“It will be like that again because we are still top, and there a lots of big games coming up, so it will be another test. It’s not often you get to play Manchester United, Liverpool and Bayern Munich, twice in two weeks, in such a short space of time.”

Manchester City and Chelsea are seen by many as the ‘title favourites’ despite both being 2 points behind Arsenal, but Gibbs is adamant that Arsenal can go the distance.

“There are 14 games left and when it gets to this stage you obviously want to stay consistent and whoever can perform best will obviously win the trophy.”
