Arsenal boss wants window closed soon

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes the summer transfer deadline should be brought forward to before the Premier League campaign gets underway.

Wenger’s comments come just a day after both Newcastle United’s Alan Pardew and Chelsea’s Jose Mourinho voiced their displeasure at the window opening until early September – four weeks after the season begins.

The Gunners felt the wrath of Pardew on Monday night after it was revealed the club made a £10million bid for Yohan Cabaye just a day before they were scheduled to play Manchester City, a game they went on to lose 4-0.

Cabaye was not selected for the match either because according to Pardew, he was not mentally fit for the game.

However, Wenger seems to agree with the Newcastle boss and also feels that the window is open to long, despite him failing to sign anyone of note as of yet.

“It’s hard but I can understand the impatience [for new signings],” he said.

“I’ve said many times that the transfer window should be over when the season starts as things usually happen in the last 10 days.

“We are not there yet but a lot will happen in the next 10 days.”
