Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola wants Leroy Sane to stay at the club but feels that it will all come down to what decision the German international makes.

Leroy Sane whose Manchester City contract expires in 2021, has been linked to a move to Bayern Munich for a while now. The 23-year old winger had a fine 18/19 season, scoring 16 goals and providing 18 assists in 47 appearances across all competitions.

Sane however, was often benched during the latter part of the 18/19 season by Guardiola. Nevertheless, Guardiola wants Sane to stay but thinks that the 23-year old will have the final say.

Guardiola said: “We want him to stay. Hopefully he can stay this season and another one and another one, that’s why we offered him a new contract. I want him. He has special qualities, we play wingers and we need specific wingers. But it is his decision, it’s the same as what happened with [Jadon] Sancho. We want him, we are giving everything, but in the end, if he doesn’t want, what can you do? Nothing.”

Sane made a substitute appearance for Manchester City in their pre-season opener against West Ham. City came from behind to beat the Hammers 4-1 thanks to a brace from Raheem Sterling and goals from David Silva and Lukas Nmecha.

It will be a big relief for Manchester City provided Sane stays at the club. However, Bayern will try their best to rope him in. The Bavarians are in dire need of a quality winger following the departures of Franck Ribery, Arjen Robben and James Rodriguez.
