Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has spoken of the ‘intense’ pressure the club was put under by world record signing Gareth bale to sell him to Spanish giants Real Madrid.

After months and months of speculation the Tottenham Hostpur star made his ÂŁ85 million move to Real Madrid ending his 6 year tenure at White Heart Lane after signing for them for ÂŁ10 million from Southampton.

Bale’s move was confirmed after Tottenham’s 1-0 loss in the North London Derby at the Emirates on Sunday.

The Portugeuse manager has said that he worried about playing Bale as he was putting ‘intesne’ pressure on the club to seel him and didn’t want to risk keeping ‘a player in that state of mind.’

“The pressure we were subjected to by the player has been intense,” said Villas-Boas, “The influence of Real Madrid has been very big and you get to a point where you have to consider if it’s feasible not to accept an offer and whether you can press on with a player in that state of mind.

“Obviously, we should be happy with the transfer fee that was paid. Players want to win championships and I believe that with Gareth that is within reach.

“At the end of the day, it’s up to a player to decide if he wants to stay or wants to go.”
