Leicester City want to tie striker down on new deal

Leicester City are set to begin formal contract talks with record-breaking striker Jamie Vardy.

The England international broke Ruud Van Nistelrooy‘s Premier League record for most consecutive games with a goal, scoring in 11-games on the trot, with the record-breaking goal coming against Manchester United last weekend.

Vardy‘s sensational season hasn’t gone unnoticed, with United and Chelsea both already linked with signing him, but according to reports, Leicester officials are already putting together a new deal for the striker.

The 28-year-old could see his weekly wage of ÂŁ45k-a-week significantly rise as the Foxes are desperate to keep the Premier League giants at bay.

According to reports, talks between the two parties are already underway, and the club are hopeful a deal can be agreed to in January.

As for Claudio Ranieri, he seems adamant that the star-striker will stay at the King Power Stadium.

Manager confident Vardy will stay

He said: “We don’t listen to the speculation. Jamie and his agent say he is very happy here. We want to grow up together. I hope we can continue all together.

“He is intelligent and knows very well that at Leicester there is a very good group, a positive group who play together.

“It is good for him and the other players to show their quality in this team. Maybe next season they may choose the best solution for them, but it is important to see where Leicester are at the end of the season.”
