Former-professional footballer, Keith Gillespie, believes Adnan Januzaj must leave Manchester United in order to reach his full potential.
The young Belgium starlet first came onto the scene at Old Trafford last season when David Moyes gave him the chance in the first-team, and after a brace vs Sunderland, it looked like United had found a new gem down the wing.
However, since Moyes’ sacking and Louis Van Gaal’s arrival, new faces have arrived at United, including Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao, which could see Januzaj sacrificed and dropped to the bench.
Another issue for the Belgium is Van Gaal’s formation and tactics as at first-glance, it appears that the teenager will not fit into the Dutchman’s system.
Gillespie, who started his career at United, was asked whether Januzaj should leave the club in order to progress, and this is what he said:
“Yes. Unfortunately, with the embarrassment of riches Manchester United have at the moment, he’s not first choice.
“He’s still young though and is learning the game. He needs games to bring out his potential.
“Last season was very poor for United, but he was probably the one shining light in a team which didn’t perform.
“Just look at the players in the team now, the likes of Angel di Maria, Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao.
“He’s a winger and I’m not sure he can adapt and play as a wing back. He needs to play further forward. It’s very difficult to fit him in to the system.”
