Chelsea skipper adamant he can still play at the top level

Chelsea defender John Terry has hit back at claims suggesting his time at Stamford Bridge is coming to an end – insisting that he can still play at the top level.

The 35-year-old is now entering the final few months of his contract at the Blues, and with no contract talks being suggested, it could be his final few months at Chelsea.

It emerged the other week that Branislav Ivanovic was in talks with officials from the clubs, but nothing has been said about Terry and his future.

Due to the club’s policy, both defenders would only be offered 12-month extensions, but at this moment in time, it looks like Terry is set for a shock exit.

However, speaking about his future, the centre-back is adamant that he’s still good enough to play at the highest level.

Terry Eyeing Stay

“I certainly think I’ll be here next season,” said Terry.

“When you get to a certain age, there are a lot of people out there who think ‘he’s 35, going on 36 and maybe his legs have gone’. But I have never had legs, it’s as simple as that.

“I have never been quick all my career. But physically, I probably feel as good as I’ve ever felt in the last two or three years.

“I’m in the right state of mind. I’m still hungry. I want to win and finish my career here.”
