Chelsea defender John Terry has voiced his delight at marking his 400th Premier League appearance with a goal during yesterday’s 3-1 victory over Southampton, which puts them up to second in the league.

Despite the positive ending, Terry’s 400th game got off to the worst start after Jay Rodriguez gave The Saints a 13-second lead after Michael Essien’s terrible back-pass.

However, goals from Gary Cahil, Terry and Demba Ba, gave Jose Mourinho’s men all three points, and after the game, Terry admitted that scoring on this occasion was extra special.

‘It’s very significant for me. It’s a huge achievement to maintain it at a top club like I have,’ Terry told Sky Sports 1.

‘I’m very proud of that. I’m thankful for the fans as well for sticking by me and the club as well. Hopefully there’s many more to come this season and maybe next.’
