The Red Devils defender admits his team need to start turning dominance in matches into points

Manchester United defender Phil Jones believes concentration and fatigue could be costing the Red Devils vital points in the Premier League.

United are currently nine points short of the top four and 13 points off league leaders Chelsea after 14 games, but he agrees with his manager, Jose Mourinho, that the team deserve to have more points on the board than the 21 they have so far accumulated.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s first-half goal looked to have been enough for Mourinho’s men, when they led 1-0 going into the 89th-minute, but a Marouane Fellaini foul allowed Leighton Baines to earn a point from the penalty spot in the dying moments of the match.

It’s three consecutive draws for United and left Mourinho again ruing a missed opportunity to take maximum points.

But while the Portuguese has put it down to bad luck, Jones believes there could be another reason why they aren’t picking up the points their performances warrant.

“I think we controlled the game from the start to the 60th minute,” said Jones.

“We maybe didn’t create as many chances as recent games.

“Maybe it’s a lack of concentration or fatigue, but it’s costing us points.

“That’s four or five games where we have dominated but not won.

“Everton is a difficult place to come, but we were resilient up until we gave the penalty.

“The manager has shown a lot of confidence in me and it’s nice. But at the moment it’s about getting results.”

Mourinho’s men host fifth-placed Tottenham at Old Trafford next weekend, knowing a win would move them within three points of Spurs, who are directly above them in the table.
