Portuguese agreed to sign striker before he was sacked

Former-Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho had a deal in place to sign Alexandre Pato in this transfer window before he was sacked from his role in December.

The Blues parted ways with Mourinho just months after he won them the Premier League title, but according to emerging reports, he was the man that got the Pato deal in place.

A 2-1 loss to Leicester City was the final straw for Roman Abramovich and later that week he parted ways with Mourinho for a second time in his career as Chelsea owner.

Guus Hiddink is now in charge until the end of the season, and the Dutchman has seen an impressive improvement since taking over at Stamford Bridge, with the latest result being a 1-0 win at the Emirates Stadium.

Pato Deal Agreed

However, the Blues will be thanking Mourinho as he was the man who did the hard work by getting the Pato deal agreed to late last year.

Just before he was sacked, Mourinho set up the deal with Corinthians to bring the 26-year-old over to England for the first time in his career.

The deal is still likely to go ahead, but it’s well documented that Hiddink has his doubts over the Brazilian.

A medical is expected to take place today.
