Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has played down his side’s chances of winning the Premier League title this season, but he insists that he is happy with the progress his team is making.

The Blues boss made his return to English football this Summer after a few years away with Inter Milan and then Real Madrid, and since his return to Stamford Bridge, he has made several changes to the side Rafael Benitez left behind.

Several new faces in and a couple of out-ones out have given Chelsea a new image and despite Mourinho being happy with the progress, he still doubts his side’s ability to go all the way and win the title.

When asked about their chances of winning it, Mourinho replied with: “I don’t think so. I think we have to drink champagne because we are improving. I think we are improving a lot. The team and the players, so the perspectives of champagne in the future are good. I think we are going in a good direction.

“We are playing well. I think we are playing well. I think the game against Stoke was a good 1-0. Quality. Individually, very good performances. Collectively, very good. The quality of the game was good.

“Defending well is also an art, and they defended very well. So I think the team is playing well.

“You never know what is going to happen in the next match, but the reality is that the results are arriving as a consequence of the team playing very good football.”
