Former Manchester United player and captain Roy Keane believes the current Manchester United squad needs to see at least five to six new additions over the summer to help improve the struggling defending Premier League champions. Keane feels United are paying the price for cutting corners over recent years and now David Moyes and the club are suffering as their league position shows.
Keane has shown sympathy towards the situation Moyes finds himself in and for the lack of big signings they were unable to make through the summer and only adding Juan Mate in January. An overhaul is needed not just in getting players in, but also getting rid of certain players.
‘I think Man United need five or six players,’ he told itv.com. ‘If it happens in the summer then instead of being fearful of it, embrace it – it’s exciting.
‘They’ve kind of cut corners in terms of transfers in the last few years, they’ve not gone out and got the big players, and it’s just caught up with them this year.’
He added: ‘I think the man (Moyes) deserves plenty of time. I think people have been afraid to use the word that there might be “rebuilding” going on but that’s exactly the word I would use.’
Vidic is already leaving at the end of the season and it seems other will follow with Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra being linked with moves away. Also Hernandez and even Kagawa are being linked with moves away due to being frustrated at the lack of opportunities they are receiving in the starting eleven.
