Koke Rues Wasted Opportunities To Put Real Madrid Away

Atletico Madrid captain, Koke was frustrated after the 1-1 draw against Real Madrid.

Luis Suarez gave the hosts an early lead and Zinedine Zidane’s men were contained throughout in attack.

They took the opportunity of just one chance that fell their way and equalized late through Karim Benzema.

“We were the better team, but they can score from any chance,” Koke said. “Fresh guys came on and the team tried to get forward, but we were up against a great opponent that has a lot of potential in attack to score goals.”

The referee rejected Real Madrid’s appeal for a penalty when the ball struck Joao Felix’s arm in the six-yard box.

“From my point of view, I’ll say it wasn’t handball and from the other [point of view], they’ll say that it was handball,” Koke said. “It’s better if the referee doesn’t explain it to anybody.”

Overall, it was two points dropped by Atletico, considering how the game went. Diego Simeone will be disappointed with the result, seeing how quickly their lead at the top have withered away.

Now, the La Liga title race seems to be wide open between Atletico, Barcelona and Real. With 12 games left to be played, anything could happen in this rollecoaster season for the Spanish giants.
