Liverpool are believed to have agreed a fee for the Inter Milan midfielder
Mateo Kovacic, 21, is reportedly set to leave Inter for £16.4million, according to reports in Italy.
Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers, has been a fan of Kovacic for some time but this evening the transfer has been finalized, according to Tuttomercatoweb.
Kovacic was in action for his country on Friday evening against Italy in a Euro 2016 qualifier – Liverpool officials were apparently in attendance.
Life after Gerrard
Rodgers believes the Croatia international is the perfect man to replace midfielder Steven Gerrard, who is set to move to the MLS this summer.
Gerrard, who was born just a few miles from Anfield, made over 500 appearances for the Reds and scored 120 times.
The Croatian youngster is a player highly regarded as one of the world’s most promising midfielders and would be Liverpool’s fourth signing this summer.
Burnley’s Danny Ings, Bolton Wanderers’ Adam Bodgan and Manchester City’s James Milner have all moved to Liverpool on free transfers.
Brendan Rodgers has been much more cautious this time in contrast to last year where they made big-money signings i.e. Adam Lallana and they failed to live up to expectations.
