Liverpool have completed the signing of Celta Vigo forward Iago Aspas

The club’s official website today released the following statement: Spanish forward Iago Aspas completed his transfer to Liverpool on Sunday night.

The forward scored 12 goals in 34 games for relegation-threatened Celta Vigo last season, and boasts shot accuracy of 57%, which would place him as second in the Premier League 2012/2013 topped only by Romelu Lukaku at 58%

The 25 year old told Liverpoolfc.tv: “Having weighed up all my options for this window, a massive club like Liverpool was always my first choice.”

It is understood that Aspas turned down offers from Benfica, Tottenham, Swansea in order to sign for the Reds, and the Anfield club have now sealed the deal worth £7.7million, for a player who describes himself as “quick and skillful”

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, according to MD Ian Ayre “spotted him [Aspas] long ago”, before hinting that there is more business to be done at the Red Merseyside club this summer: “There’s a lot of work going on, there’s certainly no shortage of that. Hopefully we’ll have some more success.”
