The French international was linked with a move to Anfield in the January transfer window, but although a move failed to materialise, the 29-year-old could be available at the end of the season.
The playmaker, who has spent the past eight years at the Stade Velodrome, has already spoken of his desire to face a new challenge abroad, with Liverpool thought to be leading the chase for his signature.
‘A departure? To discover something else next season could be interesting,’ Valbuena said earlier this year.
‘It’s been eight years since I am here at l’OM. I’ve never hidden that an experience abroad tempts me. We’ll see.’
And the latest report by French newspaper L’Equipe could spark the Reds’ interest further, as the summer transfer window approaches.
