Karius beats Mignolet to punch again

Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius is set to keep his starting place for the team’s trip to Swansea on Saturday, once again keeping Simon Mignolet on the bench.

Karius hasn’t had much to do so far playing in goal for Liverpool but his confidence on the ball has impressed in games against Derby and Hull since his return from a broken hand.

The only goal he conceded was in the Hull game, and there was little he could do as David Meyler got to the second ball first at a corner and fired past him.

It means that he keeps his spot in goal on Saturday, when the Reds travel away to Swansea, and this has been confirmed by manager Jurgen Klopp,

‘He can play against Swansea again, I already spoke to the goalkeepers, they know it,’ Klopp told the club website.

‘Of course, to understand how a player reacts in situations you need the games. We don’t have the games in the week so we do it on the weekend and then at a specific point we can make a decision because I know the goalkeeper position is different than the centre-half position, for example. I know this and I respect this, so we’ll see.’

The former Borussia Dortmund boss also praised the attitude of Mignolet and how he has responded to losing his place.

‘Simon is one of the best professionals we have. Like I said a few times, before the game there is only the decision. After the game if someone wants to talk about it we can talk about it, but before the game nothing else than the game’, he added.

‘If he wants to talk we can talk, there’s no problem, but it will not be a problem because I know him. We cannot promise line-up positions. We can only say we made decisions, use them.’
