Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is ready to attempt to sign Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku in a £26m deal.

Rodgers will use the 75m that Liverpool recieved from Barcelona upon Suarez’s departure and reinvest in building a squad capable of challenging for the Champions League next year.

It is understood that Lukaku is currently catching the eye of the Liverpool represantatives after the player’s future is still unclear at Stamford Bridge.

Rodgers does have a good relationship with Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho and believes that any deal to bring the Belgian powerhouse will not be complicated to do.

Rodgers spent four years at Chelsea working as youth team and then reserve team coach and the Northern Irishman may believe this would give him the edge in the race to sign Lukaku and Liverpool are ready to table an opening bid of £26m for his services.

Liverpool may well benefit from Lukaku’s fairly sedate showing at the World Cup finals though Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund are known to be interested whilst newly appointed Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is also keen.
