Manchester City won the first leg 4-0 at St. Jakob-Park thanks to goals from Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva and Sergio Aguero.

Fernandinho and Raheem Sterling set to miss out.

Manchester City are still likely to be without midfielder Fernandinho and forward Raheem Sterling for Wednesday’s Champions League clash at home to Basel. The duo are back in training after hamstring injuries but the second leg of the last-16 tie could come too soon. However, they could both be back in contention for Monday’s Premier League trip to Stoke.

Fabian Delph could return at left-back having served a three-game domestic suspension. Benjamin Mendy (knee), sidelined since September, is back in training and could return this month.

Meanwhile, Basel will give late fitness tests to Eder Balanta and Germano Vailati. Taulant Xhaka is suspended, while Raoul Petretta, Luca Zuffi and Renato Steffen could earn recalls to the starting line-up.

Opta stats

No team has ever progressed to the next round following a 0-4 home defeat in the first leg of a Champions League knockout tie.

Manchester City are unbeaten in their last 12 Champions League games at the Etihad stadium (W9 D3), winning each of their last four, their longest run on home soil in the competition.

Come on, Man City for the win obviously.
