Joel Castro Pereira

MANCHESTER UNITED have officially agreed a deal to send Portuguese goalkeeper Joel Castro Pereira to Rochdale on a one-month youth loan.

The 19-year-old arrived at Old Trafford from Swiss outfit Neuchatel Xamax back in 2012 and has made 11 appearances for Manchester United’s Under-21 side.

The Shot stopper has represented the Portugal International side at Under-19 level and is in need of some more competitive experience.

Manchester United wrote on Twitter: “Good luck to Joel Castro Pereira as our young goalkeeper joins Rochdale for a one-month youth loan.”

Rochdale manager Keith Hill said: “I’m really pleased to be working with him.

“He’s an exciting goalkeeper. His distribution is flamboyant and his ability in goal is absolutely magnificent.

“He comes in to push Josh [Lillis] and Johny [Diba], and one of the main reasons for bringing him in is that we feel Johny is missing out on essential game time.”

First team Goalkeeping Coach Steve Collis added: “Joel is at Manchester United and he’s there for a reason. He comes highly recommended.

“We got a chance to see him in the Lancashire Senior Cup game against United at Altrincham in the summer and he looked to be an exciting goalkeeper.

“We’re bringing him in to enhance the goalkeeping department – to push Josh and to help Johnny get some game time
