Six players to miss Watford trip

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed that six players will miss the trip to Watford on Saturday.

The United boss is dealing with a selection of injury problems, and things only got worse over the international break, with Anthony Martial injuring his foot and Wayne Rooney picking up an illness.

Both strikers will be out of the game on Saturday, meaning Van Gaal may have to turn to youngster James Wilson to lead the line.

As well as the two strikers being out, the manager has confirmed that; Michael Carrick, Antonio Valencia, Marouane Fellaini and Luke Shaw will all miss out as well, with the latter obviously being a long-term injury.

Injury Blows

Speaking to MUTV on Friday, van Gaal said: “I think that everybody knows Michael Carrick and Anthony Martial are injured, but also injured is Fellaini. That’s a surprise because I thought he was recovered after the international break, but still he is injured. And that’s a big blow because Rooney is ill, so we have a big problem, I think.

“It’s not so heavy as everybody has written in the media, but he cannot play against Watford. Maybe PSV for Martial but it’s not certain, and I think Rooney shall also play then because illness is not something of many days. And Valencia, of course, has been operated on before the international break already, then Shaw, so we have five injured players, and that’s a lot.”
