Manchester United legend arrested after reports of assault

The incident occurred in the north London’s Primrose Hill area.

It is not known whether the victim, who did not require medical assistance, will sue for damages.

The Metropolitan Police said in a statement: “Police were called to Regents Park Road, NW1, at 12.55pm on Wednesday 12th March, following reports of an assault.

“Officers from Camden Borough attended and a man in his mid-40s was arrested on suspicion of common assault.

“He was taken into custody and subsequently cautioned for common assault.

“The victim, a man, did not require medical assistance at the scene.”

The Frenchman joined United from Leeds for ÂŁ1.25m in November 1992, and went on to become one of the greatest players in the club’s history during his time at Old Trafford, winning four Premier League titles and two FA Cups.

In January 1995, he was convicted of assaulting Crystal Palace supporter Matthew Simmons during the 1-1 draw at Selhurst Park, and banned for eight months by the Football Association.
