Manchester United slap £50m price-tag on De Gea

Manchester United have put a record-breaking fee on the head of goalkeeper, David De Gea, as they ask for £50million for the Spaniard.

The current highest transfer fee for a goalkeeper is £32.6m, which is what Juventus paid for Gianluca Buffon 14 years ago, but that long-standing record could be beaten by £18.4m if any club decides to tempt De Gea away from Old Trafford.

Real Madrid are the club interested in signing the 24-year-old and have even considered selling Gareth Bale in order to fund the deal.

However, the price-tag might not be the only thing preventing Madrid from signing De Gea as United officials are set to offer him a new five-year deal worth an astonishing £200k-a-week, making him one of the club’s highest earners.

It’s believed Madrid see De Gea as a suitable long-term replacement for Ilker Casillas, but the £50m price-tag may be enough to put them off any potential deal.
