Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has admitted that his side must improve their results away from home after yet another defeat on their travels yesterday.

This time around it was Sunderland that beat Pellegrini’s men after Phil Bardsley scored the only goal of the game.

The defeat has left City eighth in the Premier League, behind rivals Manchester United, and it now means that they have only picked up four points from a possible 18 on their travels.

After the game, the Chilean boss admitted that the players need to start picking up points away from home if they want to be title contenders.

“I am concerned because we are losing too many points away,” said Pellegrini.

“Of course, it’s very difficult if you don’t win away to try to fight for the Premier League.”

“We will continue the same way because in the four defeats I am sure we are playing the correct way and I hope the wins will come,” he added.

“We had the chances to score and win the game but we didn’t and we lost. Sunderland defended really well.

“The Premier League is very close. We have a lot of points to fight for and a lot of time.”
