Manchester United wanted defender to be part of Anthony Martial deal

Marcos Rojo rejected the opportunity to join AS Monaco as part of the Anthony Martial deal, according to reports.

It emerged on Deadline Day that Rojo had a major fall-out with Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, which lead to speculation surrounding his future.

According to some reports, the Argentine snubbed a few moves that came up on Deadline Day in order to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his first-team spot.

Rojo Used As Bait

However, it’s now been revealed that United wanted Rojo to go to Monaco with Martial coming the opposite direction in order to sweeten the deal and make it cheaper.

The 25-year-old was subject to enquiries made by Marseille and Valencia, but both were snubbed by the centre-back, who is not ready to leave the club he joined just 12-months ago.

During the negotiations for Martial, the Ligue 1 side also tried to get Javier Hernandez included in the deal, but the Mexican completed his move to Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen instead.
