What next for West Ham rebel?

Marseille have given up on a move for West Ham Dimitri Payet, according to Sky Sports.

The Ligue 1 club reportedly believe it will be too difficult to bring the French playmaker back to the Stade Velodrome due to his situation with the Hammers, and are now considering alternative targets.

Payet has refused to play for the London side for more than a week now, saying he wants to go home for family reasons.

He has rejected huge offers from clubs in China since the saga began, some of which consisted of a paypacket worth around ÂŁ500,000 per week.

Payet is prepared to even accept a pay-cut to get home, but it’s looking like it isn’t going to happen now.

Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol said: “I’m being told Marseille are resigned to not signing Dimitri Payet from West Ham during this window.

“Marseille do not think it will be possible to sign him during this window and they will be moving on to other targets this month. They have almost given up on signing him this month.

“There are two ways you can look at this and the first is that you can take what they are saying at face value.

“Another way of looking at it is this could be a game of brinkmanship with West Ham. West Ham have a player who is refusing to play and who is training with the U23s.

“They are demanding ÂŁ30m and Marseille are not willing to pay more than ÂŁ25m so is this just a game of poker between the clubs?

“Marseille are saying they’re not going to pay that. What I’m being told is they’re resigned to not signing him in this window.”
