Marseille win is just the start, says Wilshere

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has insisted that the away victory against Marseille on Wednesday night is only the start for the club in their Champions League group.

The Gunners kicked off their European campaign with a 2-1 win in France thanks to goals from Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey, but they know that tricky games await as they have both Napoli and Borussia Dortmund to play.

Despite the positive start, Wilshere knows that they have a lot of work to do to progress, but he is confident that the club has what it takes.

“It’s a great start but we know it’s only a start because it’s a tough group,” Wilshere said. “We’ve got two home games now with Napoli and Dortmund and they are difficult teams but if we play to our full potential with our home fans behind us then we should be able to win both of those games.

“If we do win both of those games then being on nine points with three games left will be a good position to be in.”

The Englishman was also full of praise for team-mate Aaron Ramsey, who’s had a sensational start to the new season.

“He’s done really well and you get that feeling that he’s going to score in every game. Even towards the end of the game he gets forward because he is so fit and every shot he takes now seems to go in.

“I’m really happy for him, we gave him a bit of stick before when he didn’t score many but he’s playing really well now and we’re all happy for him.”
