Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus thinks that forward Thomas Muller does not need to join Premier League sides Manchester United or Chelsea and that he should stay in Germany for the rest of his footballing career.
The Germany international has been linked with a move to Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge for the past two years as both clubs are aiming to bring a ‘big name’ to their sides respectively.
However, Bayern’s board have confirmed that they want to keep hold of the 26-year-old and manager Pep Guardiola is a keen admirer of the attacking playmaker.
Matthaus believes only Spanish giants FC Barcelona could be a lucrative club for Muller if he does decide to leave the Allianz Arena, he said: “It is not necessary for him to go to Manchester United. Just as Chelsea is not necessary.
“Barcelona perhaps, that may be attractive. But I do not know if their style of play would suit his own.
“My opinion is that he should remain at Bayern for at least a lifetime!
“At no other club can he play with the joy and pleasure as he reflects today. He needs no new challenge since Bayern already plays each year at the top.” he added.
