Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri said why he replaced Alvaro Morata with Olivier Giroud. Giroud came on for Morata in the 61st minute. Sarri said he did so because of the aerial threat that Giroud always provides. The move paid off when Giroud assisted Pedro’s opening goal in the 72nd minute.

Sarri said, “It depends on the situation on the pitch. We crossed lots so I thought Giroud in that moment was better, it depends on the situation. At the moment we had three or four or five plans on the pitch. We called on Giroud because it was his moment on the pitch. Maybe Alvaro needs more space, but Giroud is very useful.”

Maurizio Sarri was happy that Chelsea have won all of their matches so far but he thinks they can still improve. The Italian said, “Yes, at the moment I am very happy with my players. They are doing very well during the week and very well during matches. I am very happy with 12 points but I always think we can improve and do more.”

Chelsea next take on Cardiff City on September 15.
