West Bromwich Albion manager Pepe Mel has vowed that he will keep his under performing Baggies side in the Premier League.

Spaniard Mel, is yet to taste a victory in the League this season, ever since replacing Steve Clarke as Baggies boss in January.

And with the Albion in a race against time to secure their status, Mel knows his side need to pick up results.

West Brom are currently flirting with the relegation zone, with the Hawthorns side in 17th position, level on points with 18th place Sunderland.

However, Mel believes that his side have enough quality to get out of the scrap.

He said in the Birmingham Mail: “I think West Brom won’t be relegated, never, not possible. I am sure, of course.

“West Brom will be playing in the Premier League next season, sure.

“I always think in a positive way. Even if the questions are negative, I give them a positive light.

“But for me, it’s more important that the players think that too. That’s the most important thing for me. I am the coach, I don’t play, it’s the players.”

West Brom’s next outing could go a long way towards determining their fate, as they play host to rock-bottom Fulham on Saturday, and Mel sees that contest as the first step on the road to recovery.

The Baggies current run is a far cry from last season, with the Baggies ending the campaign in 8th under Steve Clarke.

think we need to win five more games.

“(Fulham) is very important because they are in the relegation zone.

“Our focus is the way forward to win. The other thing is mental.”
