Spaniard insists it’ll only take five minutes to agree a deal

Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta has admitted that it will only take five minutes of negotiations before he signs a new deal at the club.

The Spaniard is currently a free agent at the end of the season with his current deal expiring in June, but Arsene Wenger confirmed in his press conference this week that the two will hold contract talks at the end of the season.

Now, Arteta has backed up those comments by stating that as soon as he is fit again, contract talks will begin and it will only take him five minutes before he signs a new deal.

Due to club policy, it’s believed Arteta will sign a one-year deal and he has confirmed that it will be signed at the end of the season.

The midfielder also added that at the minute, he is only focusing on becoming fully-fit again after missing a large portion of the season through injury.

Arteta Speaks

He said: “My only aim is to get back fit and try and perform on the pitch

“As long as I do that I feel that I will continue at this club. With the relations I have with the club, with the respect I have from everybody here, I’m really happy.

“If I don’t do that I’m not going to be here because I don’t want to be somewhere where I cannot perform at my best and give what I think I can give.

“In May when everything is fine we will sit down and talk and it will take five minutes.”
