With Steven Gerrard swapping the Premier League for the MLS in the summer, Liverpool are trying to line up his replacement.

Long-term Liverpool target James Milner has been sighted as a potential replacement. Brendan Rodgers knows he will have to fill the void that Gerrard will leave when he moves to LA Galaxy.

Milner’s representatives have been in talks with Manchester City over a new contract for several months, but have yet to reach an agreement that suits the player.

The England international has expressed his desire for regular game time and could move in the summer as a free agent to find it. He is currently free to discuss his future with other clubs.

When asked about the situation, City manager Manuel Pellegrini said: “When you are trying to sign a contract you need both parties to agree to it, so maybe that’s why it’s not so easy to get it signed.”

He also added: “But I repeat, the most important thing is that the club wants Milner to stay here, and he has to decide what he wants to do with his future.”

The 29-year old has scored five goals in all competitions this campaign.
