The Armenian left Old Trafford with mixed emotions as United beat Spurs to end their winless run

Jose Mourinho has been dealt an injury blow as Henrikh Mkhitaryan was stretchered off late on in their 1-0 win over Tottenham.

The Armenia international scored a first-half goal that proved to be decisive as the club’s winless run at Old Trafford, which stretches back as far as September, came to an end.

However, having only recently broke his way back into Jose Mourinho’s first-team plans, since joining the club from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, the 27-year-old had to be replaced late on following a strong challenge from Danny Rose.

It was a first Premier League goal for the United star, but will now miss midweek’s game away to Crystal Palace and West Brom next Saturday.

And Mourinho is hoping the injury isn’t as bad as first feared, saying: “It looks like next match, no, but it looks like it is nothing dangerous or needing surgery, so hopefully we have Mkhi back probably Boxing Day.”

The Red Devils’ win moved them to within three points of opponents Tottenham, who are directly above them in fifth in the table.

But the Portuguese has a lot of work to do with his players ahead of their midweek game, with the club still six points short of fourth-placed Manchester City, who occupy the final Champions League qualification spot.
