Blues boss Jose Mourinho feels new signing Juan Cuadrado needs time to settle and adapt to life at Stamford Bridge.
The winger was signed for £23.3m from Italian side Fiorentina on a four and a half year deal and made his fourth appearance for the club during their 1-1 draw with Burnley yesterday.
And Mourinho has said he will give the 26 year-old time to adapt to Premier League life.
He said: “He is adapting. He needs to adapt in everything.
“The pace of the game, in Italy it’s completely different. The intensity is much higher [here], it is different to play at the intensity we play – especially for 90 minutes.”
Cuadrado’s impressive performances for Fiorentina over the last two years have seen him attract attention from anumber of top European clubs and though Mourinho claims the Colombian will likely have to change his style of play, he remains confident that the new man will deliver in time.
“At Fiorentina he was playing as a wide player; here he has to go to areas where he’s not adapted to it,” he added.
“I truly believe we are not seeing the player we know we have because the kid needs to adapt.”
