Jose Mourinho has hit out at Romelu Lukaku, blaming his lack of professionalism for the reason he sold him, according to The Daily Mirror.

Lukaku, aged 21 signed for Everton in a ÂŁ28 million fee yesterday, with Mourinho swiftly starting the war of words regarding the big striker.

Lukaku becomes Everton’s record signing, and has penned a five year deal at Goodison Park, having spent last season on loan at the Toffees, scoring 15 goals in 30 appearances.

The player had been due to join Chelsea’s pre-season tour this week, but a bust up with Mourinho forced the move to Roberto Martinez’s side through late last night.

And the Chelsea boss then slammed Lukaky’s work rate, claiming he didn’t have the mentality to play for the London club.

“The thinking was, first of all, the fact that Romelu was always very clear with us that in his mentality and his approach he was not highly motivated to come to a competitive situation at Chelsea.

“He wanted to play for Chelsea but clearly only as the first choice striker – and at a club of our dimension it’s very difficult to promise a player that status.

“That reduced, immediately, his desire to come to us. After that Everton came with an important offer and because we want to be inside the Financial Fair Play rules, you have to analyse these situations.”
