Napoli hope to secure Reina on permanent deal

Pepe Reina has spent this season with Serie A side Napoli and has performed well for rafa Benitez’s side, securing the Coppa Italia on Saturday.

The Spanish international is expected to return to Anfield at the end of the season as he still has two years left on his current Liverpool contract.

However with summer signing Simon Mignolet impressing and managing to hold down the number one spot, it is clear that Brenden Rodgers doesn’t see a place for Reina in the squad anymore.

A permanent move for Reina to Napoli is beginning to look for likely as the Serie A side have confirmed their interest in making a bid.

Sports Director, Riccardo Bigon told +N TV“Reina is a very important player both on the field and off.

“At the end of the season we will talk with him and Liverpool, we are interested to hold him here.

“He has been fine in Naples, he has a very close relationship with the coach (Rafa Benitez) and also his family has settled very well.”

Meanwhile, despite Napoli also expressing their interest to sign a defender this summer, Bigon has denied the club has secured a deal to sign Genk defender Kalidou Coulibaly.

“Koulibaly? I deny the news that he made today (about a) medical for Napoli, but he is still a player we are following.”
