Alan Pardew identified the midfielder as one of his top transfer targets this month and while the Newcastle boss has got his man, he will have to wait until next season to introduce him to St. James’ Park.
‘We have an agreement with the leaders of Newcastle that I will not reveal,’ confirmed Montpellier chairman Nicollin.
‘But it does not include a departure for Remy before June, it is a certainty.’
The 23-year-old is believed to have cost the Magpies around £12m.
Meanwhile, Pardew has also been linked with a move for Liverpool target Mohamed Salah, who is catching the attentions of clubs across Europe thanks to his impressive displays in the Champions League.
