Newcastle United have had a setback in their hunt for a Yohan Cabaye replacement as their £11million bid for Clement Grenier has been rejected by French side Lyon.
With Cabaye sold to mega-rich Paris Saint Germain for a fee estimated around £20million, Alan Pardew is now desperately trying to find a replacement in time before the transfer window slams shut on Friday.
His attentions were fully focused on Grenier from Lyon, who has previously been linked with Arsenal, and after tabling a bid around £11million, Pardew thought he would have found his replacement.
However today the bid was rejected and Grenier himself has admitted that he doesn’t want a move to Newcastle.
‘I haven’t got a lot to say on that subject. I’m not aware of Newcastle negotiations,’ Grenier said.
‘I have lots of objectives and I need to achieve them with Lyon this year.
‘I can nearly say I’m not going to Newcastle.’
