Manchester United manager David Moyes has confirmed that defender Phil Jones is ‘okay’ despite suffering a nasty head injury during the side’s 2-1 defeat at Stoke City today.

Competing for an air-ball, Jones leaped up high but collided with Stoke forward Jonathan Walters, and it was the United defender that came off worse as he was left knocked out on the Britannia turf.

Jones was stretchered off and taken to a local hospital, but after getting several medical checks, he was able to return to the stadium to watch the rest of the game, and he eventually travelled home with the rest of his team-mates.

After the game, Moyes was asked about the state of the centre-back, and he responded with some positive news.

‘Phil is okay,’ he said. ‘He has been checked at the hospital.

‘He was out for a little while. I saw him falling back and his head going back on the grass. He got up but when we went to treat him he lost consciousness for a while.

‘The medical team did all the right things. They got him to hospital but he is fine. It looks like concussion. He should be okay.’
