Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino had defended his goalkeeper Artur Boruc, after the Southampton goalkeeper made an awful mistake during his side’s 2-0 defeat against Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday afternoon.

Boruc, who conceded a freak goal in the Saints 1-1 draw at Stoke City a few weeks ago, attempted to dribble the ball past in- form Arsenal man Olivier Giroud, but the Frenchman seized the ball from Boruc’s feet, after a failed Cruyff turn, and tapped into the open goal to put the Gunners 1-0 up.

Pochettino stated to BBC Sport via his interpreter.

“It’s not really necessary to analyse what happened, we all saw it on the pitch,”

“We want to support our keeper in spite of this mistake, these things happen.”

The South Coast club came into the match in 3rd position in the League table, after a run of superb results, and just one defeat in their last nine League outings, the Saints also had a trio of England international’s in their ranks, with Ricly Lambert, Jay Rodriguez and Adam Lallana all pulling on a three lions jersey, Lallana respectively impressing in both games.

But when Nathaniel Clyne played a routine back pass to the Polish shot stopper, who attempted a failed Cruyff turn, things went bad to worse.

Pochettino also added…..

“When it goes well we receive compliments, when it doesn’t – as today – we get negative comments. But that’s how we play and we want to continue because it brings us results.”

Southampton have a few tough games in the next few weeks, with games against Chelsea and Manchester City in the near future.
